Rod Stewart, "The Rodfather"

"Look at his ass, he looks hot!" exclaimed a woman a few seats away from me. Yes indeed. He does look hot and his performance at Arco Arena in Sacramento last week sizzled. Rod Stewart stood center stage, opening with Tonight I'm Yours and proceeded to blow us all away.
I won't list all the songs he did but a few of my favorites were a cover of Father and Son by Cat Stevens, which was so sweetly sung with a beautiful tenderness. Losing You, from the Every Picture Tells a Story album, a homage to the Temptations, was a soulful rendition and I loved it. Forever Young had a regal quality to it and just brought the house down.
But probably my very favorite moment in the show was during Maggie May. The house lights were bright enough to see a very happy Stewart surrounded by the thousands of faces in the audience singing along so loudly that all he had to do was simply hold the mike out and smile. It took my breath away.

In addition to one of the most distinctive voices ever to croon you gotta love the details too. The man knows how to put on a show! One might expect the arrival of leggy blondes in limosines, which of course there were, but the enormous scalloped curtain covering center stage, the red tartan drumsets and bandmembers in green tartan jackets really added to the visual fun.
His trio of amazing singers called The Rodettes have heavenly voices. Truly unbelievable! There were also some phenomenal guitar solos by Paul Warren who used to play on lots of the old Motown records back in the day.
Considering the size of the arena and the stage dead center there wasn't a bad seat in the place and Stewart made many a heart pound by traveling down to the lower platform several times to shake the dozens of outstretched hands.
